Experience

-GIS Specialist + Senior Environmental Scientist I, Hollaway Environmental (October 2018 to August 2021 and November 2023 to present)

-Project manager for several environmental projects, including wetland delineations, threatened & endangered species habitat assessments, and phase I environmental site assessments.

-Responsible for coordination between field survey teams, clients, the US Army Corps of Engineers, and other government agencies to assist with Clean Water Act permitting.

-Field lead for wetland delineations, threatened & endangered species habitat assessment, phase I environmental site assessments, tree surveys, and rare plant surveys.

-Field lead and project manager for a large-scale wetland mitigation/restoration project working with construction crews and the US Army Corps of Engineers. Responsible for successfully establishing wetland plants within created wetlands.

-Assist in oyster surveys, seagrass surveys, and freshwater mussel surveys for both infrastructure and restoration projects in the region.

-GIS specialist responsible for mapping field data and acquiring and mapping data from outside sources, including FEMA floodplain data, NRCS soil survey data, LiDAR data, infrared imagery, USGS topographic maps, National Hydrography Datasets, and National Wetlands Inventory data.


-Ecologist, Siglo Group (August 2021 to November 2023)

-Field lead on site assessments which include plant inventories as well as documentation of disturbances, erosion issues, rare plants, invasive plants, seeps, springs, wetlands, and other environmental features.

-Formulate and write extensive site assessment and natural area management guidelines documents that can be provided to clients to help make informed decisions on how to improve their sites ecologically.

-Construction administration to ensure that activities are following specifications and to monitor invasive species, seeding, planting, soil amendments, erosion, sedimentation, compaction, tree protection, vegetation & soil protection zones, and more.

-Collect and develop GIS layers to create maps that can accurately and simplistically display ecological data.


-Applied Ecologist, Houston Arboretum & Nature Center (2015-2018)

-Acquire, analyze, and manage GIS data

-Assist in documentation and communication of site implementation and maintenance

-Help develop conservation, grounds, and other mission oriented project criteria, priorities and focus areas

-Field Technician, Texas A&M University Honey Bee Laboratory (Summers of 2013, 2014, & 2015)

-Collected feral honey bees from trees at a TX wildlife refuge (2013) and a PA nature reserve (2014-2015)

-Used a bee lining box to find feral bee colonies and GPS and GIS to map colonies in the landscape


-Research technician, Texas A&M University and US Forest Service (2012-2015)

-Absolute risk modeling bark beetle populations in southwestern US ponderosa pine forests

-Estimating the spatial and temporal distribution of bark beetle populations at the landscape level

-Identified, cored, and measured tree characteristics in southwestern US forests

-Determined which pine beetle species attacked trees and dated them to the year


-Student intern, Houston Arboretum & Nature Center (Summer 2011)

-Investigated forest regeneration in an invasive privet removal study

-Conducted plant surveys for a rain garden and potential wood duck pond locations

-Maintained trails, gardens, ponds, etc. and provided assistance in tree identification classes


-USFS wilderness ranger, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, Grand Marais, MN (Summer 2010)

-Provided trail and campsite maintenance: erosion projects, cutting down hazard trees, etc.

-Gained experience with tools as well as camping, canoeing, and portaging


-Research technician, USDA ARS, Children’s Nutrition Research Center, Houston, TX (Summer 2009)

-Conducted genetic research on enzyme activity of Lotus japonicus utilizing MapQTL5 software

-Prepared hydroponic solutions and used them to grow plants with controlled nutrient levels
